Copyright is a form of property subsisting in literary, musical, dramatic and artistic works, as well as sound recordings, films, broadcasts, cable programmes and published editions. The owner of a copyright is given exclusivity in respect of reproduction, performance, transmission and adaption of the work, and similar commercial dealings.
The duration of copyright varies, depending upon the jurisdiction and whether the work is a primary work (literary, dramatic, musical or artistic) or one of the remaining ‘entrepreneurial’ works. Copyright in the UK is governed by the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 and internationally by various Conventions and Treaties.
Pactum Law offers advice on all aspects of copyright including ownership, exploitation (assignment, licensing etc) and dispute resolution.
